Hackers Impersonate Elon Musk To Run A Bitcoin Scam

Scams are very common nowadays, especially on the internet. Today a verified Twitter account known as @farahmenswear was hacked. The hackers changed the account’s name and picture to the multi-billionaire himself, Elon Musk. This tweet went semi-viral and was even a promoted tweet on Twitter gaining almost 5000 likes and 1000 retweets. The hackers claimed to be Elon Musk and said that he was giving away 10,000 BTC to the community; all they needed to do was to send 0.3-3.0 bitcoin to their address to help verify their address, In return, he would send back 3 – 30 BTC. The question everyone is wondering is how did Twitter allow this to be a promoted tweet, a massive scam impersonating someone else.

The Hackers Twitter Post

This scam was huge and the hackers ended up getting away with 5.84 BTC or as of writing this today that’d convert to $36,827. So far it seems as if the hackers have lost control of the account but I wouldn’t be surprised if they target a new account using a different celebrities name.
